Beyond Rodrigo Duterte

Election day is just a few winks away this will be the last on my thoughts.

I'm supporting the candidacy of Mayor "Digong" Duterte.
Why did I choose him?

Track Record. I haven't been to Davao but that land has become home to my father who does business there almost every other month. Knowing my father as a choosy person and who you won't be able to persuade just like that, fell in love with Davao City, to a point that he almost bought a property in preparation for his retirement. As to how he describes the city,  as a traveler,  he never felt so secure in a place. There's a strong hold on peace and order. Pubic service is present. The people are very  nice and approachable without sensing any form of threat or insecurity at all. Given that the people are at peace, there's cooperation, sense of direction, discipline and a functional city, all of this, applied on a much bigger scale (the whole country), why not. Track record is a very important factor on choosing a leader. Davao is proof of his capabilities and strengths of becoming the next President.  That is just one of his works being a public servant for the past 20 years.

A true leader, a working leader.
A man of action.

New Approach. When I was still a teenager, I wasn't mindful of these things. It's when I started my own family when I got really affected on how and where this country was headed. For the past 12 years, I didn't feel or see any improvement, it was downhill all the time. I saw that there was no respect towards law and order anymore. It has become a dog eat dog country.

Everytime I go out with my family, especially when taking public transport, I feel threatened and uncomfortable. So I thought, if we can't change the governing system, why not try a new approach. It's all about the Filipinos in the end--- How can we live peacefully without threat, with food on the table, schooling, opportunities and equality. There's nothing to lose because we lost a lot already.

Change of government system? why not? that's how bad it is. This country is in great danger. I'm coming from the point of view of a regular housewife who does budgeting, marketing, basically everything to have a functional home. I get affected by the events in an instant because I feel it everyday. It's different when you drive your own car. It's different when you have helpers around to work for you. It's a different story for the common people.

If he wins, whatever is going to be thrown at us, I have to say, we deserve it. Most have become abusive of the so- called democracy that was given to us. Apparently, most of us forgot that such freedom goes hand in hand with great responsibility.  Why fear when all you have to do is follow the rule of  law.

Very simple, if you don't like Mayor Duterte then don't vote for him. Those lambasting the Mayor as if they were there when it all happened, to those who live by making  assumptions and one- sided judgements... stop washing your hands of, we're all dirty as hell.
Whoever the President is, society itself is already a threat. So whether a presidential candidate made a bad joke, or said something offensive, or even got involve in a sort of misconduct, we need to look beyond that because the present governing system has been tainted already, it's all trash and manipulation even with our international ties. The qualifications for Presidency is crap, that anybody who "wants" to run can do so. Media is crappy as well (self explanatory).

What now right? consider the person who will be able to deliver what is rightful for the Filipino people. The leader who will make life less difficult, someone who will put his goals into action and will make the people of this country his #1 priority.

Why can't we move on? We're always stuck, we are always stuck. We like to dig graves and dwell so much on the old and the past. Nothing will happen if we will always react and let our emotions take over.

Personally, I'd rather have a leader with a dirty mouth but has a good governing track record, a strong sense of leadership and direction more than those who are playing clean but has done nothing but steal and burdened this country even more.

If you are troubled by the words and actions of Mayor Duterte, here's one for you, Morality starts within the four walls of our homes not with the President. Moral issues should be settled at home. A strong foundation at home neutralizes the storm we have to go through everyday outside our four walls. If you're sure that your principles and beliefs are intact, then there's no reason to get affected at all.

Majority of Duterte’s supporters are the common people. They recognize themselves with him. These are the very same beings who will unite if things will go wrong. The people has spoken, this is not a battle between good and evil, this is a battle for equality and for what we deserve. Ibigay ninyo ang nararapat sa mga Pilipino.

They are afraid of Mayor Duterte because he is a man of action. The rich will not be able manipulate this country like they used to and how they want it to be--- always in favor of them. The DECENCY that Mar Roxas speak of doesn’t imply to the Filipino people, it reflects the rich and the business sector, also a state of mind that was brought to the heads of each Filipino--- that you have to be rich, powerful and famous in order to run this country and it goes all the way back in history.

Holy Week 2014

Holy Week 2014 was spent in a serene place. Usually, my family and I would join the bunch of beach goers. But since it's been very hot and crowded in the city itself, we thought of just letting everyone else leave Manila as we enjoy a peaceful city for once. My husband was still working Holy Wednesday. Come Maundy Thursday, we stayed at our place the whole day spent some quiet time. Good Friday, we left our condo early in the morning and went to my parents' house in Rizal.

My parents' home is situated away from the main road and is surrounded with trees. The neighborhood itself is very quiet. It is the perfect place to have some quiet time and it is our favorite location for a quick getaway. As a matter of fact, some friends of my mom would stay overnight just to find some peace. They will stay in the guest room which has a balcony that overlooks this view.
During our 2 nights/ 3 days stay at my parents', we really did nothing with respect to the whole occasion. Our practice/ tradition every Holy Week remained. We spent the free time contemplating on our lives, the things we have done to serve as inspiration to others, the cross we carry to improve our way of living and spirituality and mistakes that might have caused hurt to others as well. It wasn't easy spending 3 days not being able to touch a single gadget though, but it was a good form of abstinence for me.

When Easter came, it was truly a time to rejoice. Compared to the past celebrations we had, we prepared simple dishes this year. My dad was on a business trip, so it also felt like something was missing during our Easter celebration.
Anyway, the Easter Egg Hunt continued. As always, my parents would prepare Easter eggs with money in it, then they'll hide it around the house. Our job is to find these eggs. Aside from the kids, this year, the adults were included (ang saya!) I got a total of 300++php same with my husband and kids. It was fun searching together as a family. We really worked it!

Opening Our Doors To The Spirit of Christmas

Even if the country's under a tremendous trial, opening ourselves to the spirit of Christmas will help ease out the pain and sadness. Christmas is also time to give and to share. Not necessarily material, but to contribute by showing support, uplifting the spirits, moral and sharing words of encouragement to those who are deeply scarred.

The Holiday Season is the most celebrated every year simply because everyone is happy. Even if one did not receive any gift, you'll still find that person smiling...

I look forward to Christmas decorating because it gives our home a jolly feeling. Same feeling my family wants to share with everybody.
This year, I helped my mom decorate our house in my hometown, particularly the main door. My mom started by surrounding the main entrance of the house with some Christmas garlands. Then I took over. I want it simple and well- lighted. I used some old decorations from last year which is a combination of  dove birds, silver and gold Christmas balls and ribbons. It may look that parts of the garlands don't have light, it's because I used blinkers/ animated Christmas lights. A wreath made of Lavander added color and a homey effect.
After decorating the front door, my sister took- in the Douglas Fir Tree from last year. The fresh pine scent from the tree is still there. We haven't really thought of anything for the old tree. We only have lights but it  gave us a Xmassy effect. For the moment, we used it to make room for the next Douglas Fir tree that will arrive mid- December... can't wait.

An Advance Christmas Present for Our Mom & Dad!

The 8ft. Douglas Fresh Christmas Tree Has Finally Arrived
Eversince we were kids, my mom would often tell me and siblings that one of her dreams is to celebrate Christmas with a fresh Christmas tree in our very own home. Most of us would dream of a white Christmas--- in winter clothing, making snowman and angels... but for my mom, having a tall fresh pine tree is enough to make the Holidays extra special and memorable.

The Philippines being a tropical country can make it look like it's impossible to maintain such Christmas decor. As I was researching on how fresh pine trees would survive in our country, I found out that all you'll need are the proper materials such as a tree stand built to preserve the tree itself and plant preservative to make the freshness last.

3 months ago, I was planning something with my siblings. We thought of giving our parents a special gift this Christmas. I suggested for the Douglas Fresh Tree. I remembered the days when my mom shared her love for it. So, all 5 of us (my siblings) agreed to purchase one as a surprise for our parents.
Next thing we know... Project Douglas Fir Tree was in progress.

The only store that sell the coolest and the most beautiful pine tree I've seen is S&R.   It got a little complicated when we found out that the tree is not going to be delivered and we have to get it ourselves. So to make things easier, since my mom is also a member at S&R, we took her to place the order herself. Prior to that, we prepared a Christmas card with our messages and we included the money for the tree. She was clueless until she read the card. Right there and then she cried,  she was speechless, and my dad kept on calling her because he knows that we will unveil the surprise to our mom. When they finally got to talk, both were laughing and giggling with excitement.
November 30, 2012 we received a call that tree is already available for pick-up. My dad and mom took time to get the Christmas tree and to be able to choose for themelves. They weren't able to take pictures, but here's the scenario. S&R had 6 trees between 7-8ft in height displayed. Of course, the first ones will get the best. Good thing we placed our order early, we were notified as soon as the trees came in. My parents were able to take home an 8ft tree and the freshest.
At home, a corner was prepared. When I saw it, I was mesmerized, it was captivating and come tho think of it, I'm just looking at a plain tree, a bare one, what more when it's already decorated :D My mom's thinking on what decorations she'll put.
Aside from the plant preservative included, S&R also shared some pratical ways to preserve the tree.
The most important thing is to make sure that the tree stand has water everyday. The location of our house, our area itself has a cool climate almost all-year round that's why we didn't have second thoughts on purchasing one.
It made our living room more beautiful. Can't wait for Christmas!

Another dream came true...

0o0o
The Douglas Fir Tree is being sold at any S&R branches for P3,800-Tree stand and plant preservative are not included. (for details: visit the nearest S&R branch)
We placed our order a month ahead so we can also get the tree stand and plant preservative that will come with the tree itself.
8ft. Douglas Fir Tree: straight from Oregon, USA.

My Stand: The RH Bill

-revised 8612
With this entry, I would like to pour out my concern and thoughts on the recent issues within our government and society.

Instead of going through the details of the RH Bill, I prefer to enlighten the readers of this post on possible solutions on saving our community and keeping our sanity intact.

The RH Bill (Reproductive Health Bill).

Corruption is nothing if were to talk about polictcs because we have laws and court procedures for that. But if we're to tackle more on the moral issues as a citizen and as human beings, this is where a person should voice out his thoughts and weigh things carefully. We Filipinos are the envy of the whole world because of the family ties we share. Even if Life is pretty hard on us, we Filipinos never fail to smile everyday, we Filipinos have the blessing to see the joyous part of Life.
Clearly, if you're a moral person with a happy disposition you wouldn't even dare think of controlling another person's life. It's not only about abortion, it's not only about saving us women, it's not only about the fatality rate of women giving birth. It's all about the amount of control this bill will bring into our lives. There are better ways to make a better living.
Before continuing, it was said that one reason for this RH Bill is to control our population with our natural resources depleting. With our population getting bigger by the minute, we might just lose all the essentials.
My Answer:
"Life becomes complicated when a person seeks for more than what he needs".
Just like what my brother shared: ‎"Just take what we need, and leave the rest for the others." - Swamp People on hunting for food

The Philippines is covered with all the resources we need and I don't need to be an expert just to see that. You go out of Luzon, vegetables and fruits are very abundant, fishery is booming, all we need is to do is to take care of these natural resources, a much valuable recipient more than the RH Bill.
These politicians pushing for thie RH Bill are too greedy and too selfish to give others a chance to LIVE. "naisip ko baka pangtakip lang itong RH bill na ito sa mga bagay na hindi kaya ibigay ng gobyerno sa tao, na dapat binubuhusan nila ng tamang panahon at pera".  "Or in other words: pera-pera lang yan."
In the first place, most politicians pushing for this RH Bill doesn't have their own families to understand what it feels like to have growing family. They're all secured and blinded by their extravagant lifestyle. It's easy to talk details, it's easy to plan, but it will take a lot to experience reality before one should push for such bill.
Our body and soul are one of the sacred treasures we have as humans. Life is a miracle. We are all born unique that's why I described it as a miracle. And MAN who came from life wants to destroy the very essence of it. All these are reflecting on how the RH Bill can destroy the smallest yet the most powerful and influencial unit in society the FAMILY.
There are better ways to build a better society with our great population.
1.  Family/ Proper Parenting: Everything starts within the family. Population problems flourishes from the lower classes of the community. They rely so much on the government and on things they hear and watch on television. The government needs to be consistent on pouring large amount of time and money to guide these people. Proper advertising, interactive seminars, retreats, house to house visits, and these shouldn't stop. My friends, these are even worth the money, time and energy than listening to debates on how to control and limit the number children in every household.

When I was taking up Nursing, I was assigned mostly in the slum areas in Quezon City. There, I was opened to the life of a common Filipino family. Our job as nursing students was to give health care advises which includes nutrition, taking care of the family, family planning and introducing cheap and healthy ways to keep the family nurtured and nourished. Plus, making them aware of the services which the government has set for them.  We also added the benefits that they can get if they embrace these government services. We can do it without the RH Bill. You see, these so-called RH services are already in motion eversince but they're not being advertise because "maybe" the previous administration is PRO-Life. It was made as alternatives,  but not like the present bill that went to a point of controlling and dictating what is right for women.  Like I said everything should start within the 4 walls of our homes. Even with the effort we pour, most families I tried to reach out to with these government services rejected the offer and refused to go to the health center. Reasons: "umuulan kasi" "tinatamad lang". Kahit ilabas pa ang RH Bill, if one person refuses to listen and would rather do it her or his way, this bill is useless. Such a waste of time and money.  These services are handed to the people on a silver platter right at their very doorsteps, but they wouldn't listen or at least give it a try.
2. Create jobs: Set qualifications according to what the people needs. Give what's due to the workers. Stop hoarding money. Most OFWs are skilled workers and they thrive. Sad to say, they become successful if they work outside the Philippines. In other countries, their skills are being recognized and they are paid up to what they can achieve. Here in our country, the only people who are thriving are the business owners. Pay and treat your workers right and you will get hardwork in return. With more job options, a Filipino Family with 5 or 6 children can survive with the basic essentials. I know, because my parent's raised me and my 4 siblings with just the basic essentials. My parent's made sure we're fed everyday, my parent's looked for ways to keep us in school, my dad harvested saluyot from a vacant lot to feed us everyday, even with nothing really delicious to serve my mom made sure that we ate together, we don't have appliances, we don't have a car, my dad used assembled old bicycle parts as trasport. But with hardwork and sacrifice, we were able to move on.

3. The Right Education/ Proper Learning:  Offer courses that can be useful for our everyday lives.  Not Sex Education. Leave the kids alone! Why can't we just focus on the Reproductive System than giving detailed information to these youngsters. The more we inject thoughts about sexuality, the more they become curious on what sex is all about. Let the kids play, let them grow how a child should. They will eventually learn about it, and by that time, their minds are mature enough to listen to what their parents has got to say. Again, everything starts within the family.  Do not teach the children directly about sex. I mean, I bet their parent's aren't even talking about it at home, and here you are planning to feed or  maybe you're already feeding this trash inside an innocent child's mind.

4. Change The System: If you want a progressive country, get rid of the unnecessary branches that's eating up funds and has become a headache within the system. "Alisin ang mga pangpagulo". This way, the government can save up more money to aid the people. In one municipality, there are several people seated in position. You don't even know, who's the Mayor from the counselor, to the kagawad etc. There's so much things to change within our governing system, why don't we start here, than mess with somebody else's life.
0o0o
It's not easy as I enumerate these things, I know.  As a citizen of this country, through this personal blog is the only way that I can voice out my thoughts, hoping to change some minds. But to each his own. I will respect each and everyone's point of view as you respect the thoughts I've poured with regards to this issue.
Our Creator gave us different people to deal with everyday, different situations to maneuver around, trials to face and blessings to cherish and Man was given the Will to find ways to live a better life without killing the nature of Life itself. Let's ask for wisdom before we submit to anything that will harm human nature.

This Is How We Celebrated Christmas

Our Christmas celebration has always been about family.  Joseph and Mary was gifted with their own when Christ was born. And that's what we honor as one unit... because of Christ, we are blessed to have a complete family every Christmas Day.
The night of December 24, 2010, I prepared a small feast.  We had Lasagna, Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Fruit Salad, Decadent Cake, Roasted Rib Eye Steak, Crispy Chicken Fillet with Mayo-Garlic Sauce, Queso de Bola, Holiday Ham, and my Leche Flan.
Gifts from friends and relatives surrounded our small tree. A few weeks before Christmas, this section of our humble home was empty. And in a day or 2, suddenly it was filled with presents.
Most of the gifts went to our son. We spent on  things that he really loves and  stuff that will enhance his skills. My husband and I divided the tasks. I came up with a set of Crayola's Kids Art Tool, which includes a 96 ct. Crayola Crayons, Crayola Explosion, a 24 piece set of Crayola  Twistables and a drawing book. From his dad, instead of getting our son his own PSP, we decided to lower it down to a Game Boy. Kids at this age should be out running around, nature tripping, listening to music and spending time with arts and crafts. But with the modern trend, we still got him a Game Boy just to make him feel that he is not being left out. We know the feeling... been there lol!.

This year's Christmas celebration was filled with so much happiness, contentment and surprises. We look forward on Christmas because we also take it as an opportunity to give thanks on the moments given to us throughout the year. It is actually the best time to look back, take a few minutes and meditate on the events that made you, as a person complete and what made the family stronger than ever.

Christmas Ball for 2010

Every year, we are graced with one of the most prestigious, amazing and rockin' Christmas Party. We started joining this Christmas Party last 2008. It started with a Hollywood Theme that was held at the Intercontinental Hotel. 2009, was one of my favorites, it was a Pirates' Christmas Ball, and we were partying in a cruise ship.

2010,  my husband was part of the group who prepared for this year's theme. Those sleepless nights and tiring weeks of preparation were all worth it. Come to think again, it's always worth it.

The much awaited Christmas Ball for 2010: Titans' Christmas Ball.
We didn't put too much effort on our costumes... we've been busy with various activities for the past month. But still, we were able to produce outfits that matched the Titans' Theme.

Hair: thanks to my sister Les
Accessories: from my mom
Make-up: no make-up at all
 Photobooth here, there and everywhere!
It was a wild night of unlimited drinks, food and dancing. A Starbucks Coffee Bar, Fiorgelato, Krispy Kreme, for the coffee lovers and for those who has an appetite for sweets.
The band was great! It was awesome! We Danced The Night Away to the music of the 80’s (Pop-New Wave), 70’s and the 90’s hits.
Route 70 Band and The Authority Band lead by Juan Miguel Salvador. December 2005, the Authority Band won the Global Battle Of The Bands represented the country in London.
To complete the night, our World of Warcraft Guild was united, the best part, with new players. One of our guild members won the grand prize for Best in Costume, he came as the Cracken and won an iPad.

Now, that's totally W0W!!!

Extraordinary November 25th

You know what made this day extraordinary? To start, Thanksgiving Day  2010 is celebrated on the other side of the globe on this date. November 25, marks the calendar that we are exactly a month away from Christmas. To add, it's my birthday and I'm sick with a really bad cold LOL!  My birthday dinner was canceled, I couldn't cope with this heavy feeling stuck in my brain. My eyes all watery and I'm still dazed with the medicines I took the whole day.  This world isn't perfect, that's how life goes, it's still something  memorable. A thought that I can  look back to and might just make a day fascinating just thinking about it.

Nothing will stop me from thanking the Lord, who gave me a colorful year, and yet another to look forward to. I would also like to thank the people who greeted me on this special day... Thank you for remembering.

With all that has been mentioned, like I said, I may be sick on my birthday, but it's something worth remembering. Tomorrow is a busy day but  I know it is going to be a fulfilling one. Thanksgiving mass to start my weekend, lunch with my boys in celebration of my birthday, will go shopping after.
And then... I will start packing for our 3 day vacation!
Yes, God works in mysterious ways...

Oh Christmas is Here, Christmas is Here!

Over last weekend the 3 of us, namely my husband , my son and yours truly, spent our weekend shopping for Christmas decorations and setting up our Christmas Tree.
My little boy's been waiting for this since summer that he made Christmas lights to be part of his wish list. We didn't fill the tree as much for the moment.
Since we changed our them e from Silver and Blue back to Red and Gold, we want to take it easy this time by putting the right decorations that will make our tree simple yet elegant to look at.

By the way, I added some butterfly ornaments this year... It made our tree look modern and sweet. And to make Christmas different, we decided to put an Angel on top of our tree instead of a star. Our son will give us the honor midnight, 24th of December and as we welcome Christ on the 25th.

The sudden change of theme was inspired by our new home. Remember, we moved to a different place early this year. You know what they say, new home, new beginning, new life full of new opportunities. So why not, it's been 2 years sticking with Silver and Blue, Red and Gold would add more life to this new chapter in our lives.

Franky's Weekend Birthday Celebration

If Franky's birthday celebration for the past years were simple, make this one the simplest. Yet, we will make it the most memorable.

Birthday Graphics

Weekend? my husband and I decided to make our weekend extra special this week. For the upcoming birthday of our son, we came up with several plans to have the whole weekend just for Franky. To begin, today, we will be going to all of his toy shops at the Greenhills Shopping Center and make him choose whatever he likes. Actually he's been requesting for a Ben 10 watch. Another, is a Superman Costume. He now likes Superman more than Spiderman, or maybe because Superman can fly.
Then after, we will be bringing him to SM Megamall to have a good time at his favorite play area, while playing, my husband and I will proceed on buying more gifts for him. Tonight, we will have dinner and off to see The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Franky likes this movie, everytime he sees the preview on television, he stops with whatever he is doing and he gives his full attention.

Kids, they always make it unforgettable every time they get whatever they want on their special day. True? based on my experience, one of my unforgettable moments as a child was when I got my first Barbie Doll. And even up to now, that experience is one of the most talked about, especially when I recall my childhood days with my parents and siblings. And we want Franky to have those same unforgettable thoughts. That someday we will have our own conversation, recalling his first favorite moments as a child. At this age, it's going to be easier for children to register special events, especially if it is their birthday. By the way, the celebration continues until tomorrow. we have another set of activities, starting with lunch at Johnny Rockets!

When 2 Events Meet

I wanna bang my head on my computer desk right now.

Just when I confirmed to Chris of The Mommy Journey that I will be attending ParenTIN Talk Series 3, I was told that another activity was set on that very same date. Well, the second activity isn't sure yet, but if it's going to push through, I will be prioritizing it because it is an out of town gig of my husband, and with his come back to the music scene, I wouldn't want to miss it. Plus,  we might go diving too. Who wouldn't want that right?

But! I am also feeling awkward and sad because I told Chris that I will be coming with my mom, and I even invited my sister-in-law and another friend of mine who's going to become a mother soon. What a situation right?
ParenTIN Talk is a great event. The topics for this talk is going to be helpful  not only for us who are already parents, but also for those who have plans on having children in the near future. I have been wishing to attend even just a single session , especially if it is hosted by Tintin Bersola- Babao herself. And I'm thankful that Chris sent me a personal text message as an invite. Another reason I wanted to attend is to be able to meet and greet some bloggers for the first time.

So what do I do? Actually I can't figure anything as of the moment. I plan to wait at least  a week before September 11. Once the out of town gig is 100% sure, I just gotta break the bad news to Chris. Or if you're already reading this, I hope the trip will be moved so I can still go and enjoy ParenTIN Talk with you and the rest of the parents.

The Governing Factor

I am as interested as everyone, every Filipino looking forward to what President Noynoy has prepared for us. The President's State of the Nation Address is very important to me being a mother and a wife. Every centavo that I take out of my wallet counts, every drop of perspiration from my husband's hard work matters and the thousands that they take off my husband's salary just for tax is overly ridiculous.  With that ,we don't even feel that our taxes are being used properly. I know that somehow the Aquino administration will solve more this time.

Kudos for laying off from the usual speeches our past presidents has given us.
A pat on the back for emphasizing on laws and bills needed to be prioritzed.
A good round of applause for looking up on Education, Poverty, Corruption and other works illegally attained.

My question: How will the new admin go about their promises? Why am I asking? You see, we fought the very same problems over and over again. I'm fed up hearing falls hopes and dreams.  The only thing that shed light for the past years--- are  the people being more vigilant. That's why during the whole term of the Arroyo admin, reports of corruption are exposed immediately. But over-all, these were the very same problems for every President who sat down in Malacañang. *Naiba lang ang pangalan ng mga taong kailangang managot.

As an individual I had expectations. I wished President Noynoy concentrated more on the path towards a better Philippines not tracking back anomalies and irregularities from the previous administration. Because really, we're very much aware of these things, and there are far worst than what he mentioned.  It was his time to open himself to the nation to share what the President really wants for the country, not the people behind him. This was his moment. It's better if he said that they're already handling those mishaps (from the previous gov't )and  moving on to what he has got to offer the country for the next 5 years, or at least what's expected under the new government.

But again my bad, what can I do right? I mean, I should have kept an open mind and adjusted to whatever was served during the President's first State Of The Nation Address.

I have high hopes for President Noynoy.  President Noynoy is a good person. I know he will not let us down. But  I am also looking for that so-called "governing factor". One major thing I'm worried about are the  people around him.

Governing: To exercise a deciding or determining influence. It's not just being the leader of the pack or  a group and country for this matter. It is the determining influence, to keep control, the force behind every person placed in position in order to achieve goals for a particular department.

The factor that will give him wisdom to enlighten the people around him on what's right and what's not. And as citizens, progress starts with us. If you're going to be lazy your whole life relying on the government, it will take you forever to reach your dreams, and you'll end up blaming others too.  It's hard work, and perseverance on our/ your part in order to achieve the life we've/ you've always dreamed of.

Gathering For Unity

May 7, 2010 marked my year Extraordinary.
1. It was my first time to campaign for a certain candidate.
2. It was my first time to share the voice inside me, what I believe in.
3. It was my first time to experience meeting de avance.
4. It was my first time to witness and experience true camaraderie and unity from all walks of life.
It was fun. Happiness filled Rizal Stadium, night of May 7, 2010. That moment was for everybody to be thankful for each and everyone's contribution on keeping a good impression for Presidential Candidate G1BO Teodoro,  a job well done... On all honesty, I was not really for G1BO Teodoro since the start of the campaign period. Not because he is under Lakas- Kampi or under the umbrella of the Arroyo Administration. Like the rest, it's because I don't know much about him. I kept an open mind and studied each candidate. There were times when I saw the lighter side of Manny Villar, the works of Dick Gordon, I listened to Jc Delos Reyes, and Nicanor Perlas and #1 on my list at that time was Noynoy Aquino. But when I gave G1Bo the chance, all I said was: "this man is different" and like what my Mom took as basis and from  the words of my sister-in-law : G1BO Teodoro was the only candidate who has never uttered any deregatory word towards the other presidential hopefuls only to gain votes or following.

For the very first time, I  became very vocal on my concerns as a citizen, I was able to post shout outs and I didn't hesitate posting stuff online about my candidate. He taught us to be open, to listen, and to express how one should feel without stomping on anybody else.
Over-all, win or lose it is the whole journey that made  an impact in this meeting de avance. A journey that few candidates notice and appreciate.

At the  May 7, 2010 Meeting De Avance, G1BO Teodoro's speech was heart- warming. It was a speech filled with words of gratitude. The campaign is over, it was his time to thank the people who supported him and those who continue to believe in him. Nothing more. This man is full of humility.

As for my family, we did our part, we tried and we will continue to practice what we started with G1BO. The values of helping the country and the elected president. A new beginning, a new leader but life is going to be the same, it's up to us to stand and make a big difference.

o0o0o
A person who DOESN"T SAY ANYTHING AGAINST HIS FELLOW CANDIDATES, a person who's able to make a STAND ON HIS OWN, a person who's ABLE TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE, a person who PRACTICES CAMARADERIE, a person who KNOWS HOW TO LISTEN and MAKES FIRM- WISE JUDGEMENTS AND CHOICES, a person who is READY TO ACCEPT DEFEAT and WILL HELP STABILIZE OUR COUNTRY, THAN destroy the elected leader, a person WHO VALUES and LOVE HIS FAMILY, will no doubt, LOVE HIS COUNTRY AS MUCH, a GOD -FEARING, GOD-LOVING person... these are STRONG CHARACTERISTICS that makes up a good leader.

REGARDLESS OF TRACK RECORD, PARTY AND STATUS. A candidate will not qualify if he/she is not capable basing it on history of Philippine Politics (at least from the moment I was awakened) . Basically, anybody can run for Presidency as long as you're of legal age. We placed the most experienced politicians, but most of them succumbed with greed and malicious judgements and totally forgot about THEIR JOB: PUBLIC SERVICE and GOOD GOVERNANCE.
Politics was made to have rules and procedures to follow. For the past years we all witnessed how people juggled around with these rules, how our country played in this game. THIS IS NOT A CONTEST. Popularity is not gauge in order to put somebody in position.

Look for the moral aspect, listen to the words that comes out of each candidate's mouth. Consistency ON HIS GOALS with a timeline set in order to make achievements. NOT hopes and dreams that will eventually be left behind. Then decide.

Photo Fiasco

Why Fiasco? Well it's photo sharing gone wrong.

Emotions are at it's peak as the campaign period comes to an end and we're nearing the big day when Philippine politics will make another mark on history.

With that, we all have our own picks, we all have our own little way to show support. And my way of showing trust and support to my candidate is through a photograph.

GIBO
I took an image for my sister with her hand pointing up holding a presidential candidate's baller id. I shared it online.

People asked for permission to use it. I don't have any problems when it comes to sharing. This picture is a form of expression for me, and so I gave my go signal through my sister Ella as she posted it on Facebook. Tracing back the people who asked permission, there's this one user who removed my watermark on the photo. I know she didn't intend to own the photo, but once watermark is removed, viewers will get the impression that the photo is owned by the person who posted.

Personal feedback: it's a very sad thing to do
Removing one's signature from the photo which is not yours is a big no-no whether it is under license or not. Self-explainable. If it's not yours, don't change anything.

The internet is the perfect place to apply  "the freedom of everything" . I gave the rights to share even if they don't link back or give credit, just keep the image as it is. My photo may not look as impressive but it's still mine. The only way to recognize the owner is through his/ her watermark.

To end:
The other party apologized and posted the original photo with my watermark. Thank you for doing so. I may have judged this user, but remember, in everything you do, reflects the kind person you are. I'm glad she did her part. Thank you for keeping an open mind.

It's All About Family This Holiday Season

As the saying goes:

"The most important gift around every Christmas Tree is the presence of the whole family..."
If we're going to talk about the true essence of Christmas, Christ was born with Mama Mary and Joseph by his side. I was told that the Nativity is the true symbol of Christmas, and I would like to share with you our wonderful experience this year. Christmas with the Cruz Family has always been fun. Especially the time when my father-in-law was still around to celebrate it with us. The whole family from my husband's side was present. Things changed 2 years ago, mostly left for the U.S., my father-in-law passed away a month after Christmas of 2007. It was just sad to see that we're all going our separate ways. We celebrated Christmas 2008 like the usual, but we're still grieving with the lost of a special loved one and reality--- it was just different. Especially when we're used to celebrating with the whole family.

This year, it was our time to get back on track, we're completely adjusted and made the holidays extra special once more. My husband got us a new desktop to enjoy, [EFX Kit-BL-GLD] Effects Board Kit with GOLD PLATED connectors for my husband, camera accessories for me, Franky went shopping at Toy Kingdom. As gift, we made him grab whatever he wanted.

Even if we're oceans apart from our family in America, it didn't let us down. Thanks to the awesome gift of technology, the internet. It made us feel that we're just side by side, opening gifts together and greeting each other Merry Christmas. I have my own family now... and the important thing is being able to celebrate the holiday season with my boys. That is something great to be thankful for. Besides, my husband made sure that our Christmas tree is going to be full of gifts to give away.

Let me take this moment to give my message of love and appreciation to my other half--- I was choosing a card to go with his gift when I found an extraordinary card with an extraordinary message stacked in between the Christmas cards...

The message: Celebrate Every Day With Me My LOVE
"What I love most about my life is living it with you. I am so thankful to know the kind of love we share. You make me so happy. You bring me joy. I feel so fortunate to know that dreams do come true and love is a trusted force that direct our hearts to know what is best for us. In the deepest part of my Being, I know that I'd be lost without you. Our dreams and goals keep me hoping, caring, and planning. Because of you, I wake up every day excited about life. Our love is the reason I have a song in my heart. I want to go on sharing my life with you forever and I hope you will celebrate every day with me, my love."

-Donna Fargo-

The moment I read the message, I knew that this card was meant for him. Exactly what my heart has been wanting to tell him on Christmas Day.

Other than celebrating Christmas with my family, The Laras (my side) were all present. For the past 2 years my brother Nano, was always busy with work. He is a Manager for a fast food chain , and knowing him as a responsible person, he never leaves his team at work even on Christmas and New Year's Eve. We supported him all the way, but it made us feel incomplete. Family makes us complete as a person, regardless of our status in life.

In my side of the family we also have this bond to be present especially on special occasions. And God granted for all us to be together this year. My brother took a time -off from work and was able to join us.

It's been a long since our last family picture. I have the camera, but I don't feel like taking our fam pic when I know one is missing. I truly embraced this moment with my family. 2010 is going to be a special year for the Laras. I am very happy for our parents. In everything they do, they never fail to include God in every achievement and trial in life, being thankful for the Graces we all have been receiving every day... that's why He Granted a long time dream to come true. Unveiling soon...

Mother and Son Took The Center Stage

Yes! another milestone indeed as to what the school directress told us in her opening remarks. Every mom knows what I mean. For a first time school mom, this achievement was hats off for my son's effort and overall performance. We are very proud of him. This is his first performance on stage and mine as a mother. We enjoyed, loved and cherished every moment of this experience.
Our Little Drummer Boy
Every dance number was different from the other. It was a creative venture of ideas. Kudos for the hard working teachers who were able to make the event a giant success.I would also like to thank them for giving this opportunity so I can contribute as a parent. I was invited to join the other moms for a dance number. Of course, I will never say no to anything that will open a chance for me and for us as parents to show our support to son.
I was coping with everything. Doing my regular chores, preparing for Christmas, bringing my son to school for his dance rehearsals, and at night, I go out to practice for my presentation. And the day before our presentation, I sprained my ankle. It was terrible, I couldn't sleep, it was very painful. But again, I know that He will never let anything come in- between. God is good, He made me feel better for the Big Day. Though I still can't jump and do some bumps, it was ok. I was able to dance.
It was all worth it!
It has been a good school year for Franky. My wishes came true before 2009 ends. It would be a blessing to stay active with various school activities for the years to come. My son gladly appreciates our presence. Not only did it brought out his confidence, it was also the boosting force behind this happy Little Drummer Boy.

Thoughts Of A Child That Completed A Mother's Heart

This may be the greatest blessing I have ever received this year... Thoughts from my very own child... It got me teary-eyed, it completed the Mother in me. Bringing my son to school is one of my greatest achievements as a parent. And it is one those high aims I have been meaning to hit for the longest time. The time when I was still of a very young age, thinking what if--- it is already my turn to have my own family, will I be able to give my children the very best of everything?
That question has been answered by own little boy. A surprise gift made with his own little hands.
This is one moment we all shouldn't miss. Our children may create the nicest card ever, but the message is the most important. How they answer back to those tiny droplets of hard work we poured just to give them all the goodness in the world.
How were able to mold them into good, obedient and respectful children. God Bless you Franky and Thank You for being such a sweet boy. We all love you, and yes, lolo will watch your Christmas presentation on Sunday. I love you...
