Location: Dicasalarin Brgy. Zabali Baler, Aurora

For the past visits I made, I was amazed by the people of Baler as skilled and naturally born craftsmen. Baler is able to keep its natural state and it flourishes thru the people who are very passionate about their cultural heritage. Dicasalarin is not only a beach destination. This enchanting place was built for artists seeking for inspiration.

Going to the cove, you will find your way towards the Ifugao Houses. This part of Dicasalarin can also be a place to spend some quiet time.

From the beach, we went to the Artists' Village which is a few minutes away. I enjoyed our walk towards the Longhouse. It was refreshing and relaxing, the path way is surrounded by trees.

The Longhouse is an open structure. It's a refreshing place to be in. The Longhouse caters to artists who wants to find themselves deeper with their crafts.

This place can serve as a retreat house as well. 

It, being surrounded by trees, streams and total silence, the Longhouse inspired me and my friends. Usually, we take group pictures or we explore the place. But during our stay at the Longhouse, we were scattered around. One was at the top floor staring at the mountain... Another was sitting on a log in front of the house. As for me and my family, we took the time to appreciate art some more and introduced it to our kids once again.

In connection, we met one of the artists of Baler (for their privacy I will not mention any names). As we were told by our host, they're brothers who are known in town. One of them painted for Kris Aquino when Baler was featured on her show. Some of their paintings are also displayed at the famous Costa Pacifica.

Our friend Rach who also loves to paint was very happy to have met one of them. She was able to get some tips on painting and advices as a painter.

Dicasalarin met its purpose to inspire people. If you want to find peace or just be one with nature, this is the place to visit

Dicasalarin Cove Baler

Location: Brgy. Zabali Baler, Aurora

I have a lot to touch with this entry. Not only because Dicasalarin is known for its lighthouse, crystal waters and fine white sand, but it was also developed into a peaceful place for nature wanderers. We failed to visit Dicasalarin Cove during our 2011 trip to Baler. That's why with the recent trip we made to Baler for 2014, our host made sure that we experience Dicasalarin.

Swimming was not allowed at the time of our visit. The waves were pretty high and the current---powerful. But the vastness of the cove/ beach area Dicasalarin was inviting.  we still went for a dip but we stayed by the shoreline with the kids to feel the cold ocean splash at our feet and just enough to freshen up. Dicasalarin made me feel that I was some place else. A beach outside the country, something like Hawaii. .

During our recent trip to Baler, Dicasalarin Cove was one of the highlights of our tour. They say, few can gain access to this enchanting place. Let's just say that we were blessed that the nice people of Dicasalarin opened their doors to us for a private tour. It took us about 20 minutes from the Baler town proper to reach the cove itself. Along the way, we were greeted by the majestic view of the Pacific.

I took the time that day and pondered on the blessing poured over at my family that moment. I was one with nature again. 

The sight of the blue sky and the ocean was amazing. These images are not enough to describe it's beauty. You have to be there to feel the wind, see the green scenery and blue sky, hear the waves roar and appreciate God's gift which is just hours away from the chaotic city living.

Thinking of Baler this Summer?

A couple of days ago, I found out that someone I know went to Baler, Aurora over the weekend. I was shocked when that person said he didn't find Baler appealing and that he didn't enjoy his stay. In connection with that, just this evening, I was browsing thru my news feed on Facebook when I noticed that a lot from my contacts list are planning for a 2-day visit in Baler. I wanted to comment or advice these people, but then again, I don't want to spoil their evening. So here it is, the reason I made this post is to give light on what to expect on a 2-day trip to Baler, Aurora. 

To each his own, I know. I just feel it's unfair to say that you didn't enjoy Baler when you only stayed for 1 1/2 days. Okay, make that 2 days. It's sad to hear something unpleasant about a beautiful destination.

There's a lot to take into consideration.

Travel Time, Mode of Transportation, Road Hazards:

In my previous posts I mentioned that the road trip to Baler, Aurora via Pantabangan will take about 5-6 hours. Yeah traveling time is much shorter than going to Baguio. But please take note that to be able to reach Baler, you'll have to go up, cross and go down the Sierra Madre mountain. Travel time may be short, but... it is going to be quite a trip, a bit bumpy, and get a good driver by the way, the travel alone is going to be a challenge.

A Place To Stay:

In every vacation we all make, we choose what's going to be the most comfortable for us. In Baler, there's a lot of inns to choose from and they're all clean. If it's a short stay, might as well go for the nicer ones. I suggest Costa Pacifica. At least a place where you can rest well, rejuvenate after an exhausting day.

Tour: This is when it gets all tiring, doing everything in one day.

In Baler, you don't just swim. You explore, hike, trek, dive, surf and even walk your way to the nearest tourist spot.

But if you are still considering, here are some tips: If you don't have a car. In Baler, there's this so- called "Tricycle Tour" accredited by the Dept. of Tourism, it will take you to nearby tourist spots. Some inns and hotels "as I was told" during our last visit offer tour packages with comfortable transportation. The people of Aurora are very friendly, please don't hesitate to ask.

Please do surf, embrace the waves.

For the past visits we made to Baler, it has always been a 4-day stay and yet even with the hotspots we've been to, it feels like we left a lot in Baler untouched.  Given this, what more if you will only go for a 2 -day stay.

Anyway, it all boils down with proper planning, research and a huge amount of time in order to enjoy and make any vacation/ experience worth remembering.  I'm sure, you're going to love Baler and it is going to be worth the trip.

This is also to take note that we left Baler a month ago--- still with lots of places unexplored. We will make sure to return and continue to discover more of this fascinating land.

Our 4-day stay was not enough to go to all famous tourist and untouched spots in Baler. With our travel to Baler this year, aside from Costa Pacifica, our host opted to take us to new 2 beach locations near town. Along the way, we made a quick stop to see the Aniao Islets, Barangay Zabali, Baler.

These bullet- like islets will stun you with it's majestic formation.

The beauty of Baler is everywhere. One are the Aniao Islets. It is seen from road.

Along the way to Dicasalarin Cove, we were be able to take a view of the islets. By private transport, you can park your car at the side. With great caution, cross the 2 lane- road and enjoy the fresh breeze of the ocean as you stare at the amazing islets.

It's Summer! and I'm loving it!

To Baler, Aurora

Going back to Baler was a plan that didn't push through in the past 2 years. It's a trip we all looked forward to. As we all know, our family got busy with a new baby on board, same with some friends of ours. That's why if you'll notice, with our recent trip, there were more kiddos around. Within those 2 years of waiting to make a trip back to Baler possible, our adventure for 2014 resulted with a new set of unforgettable memories as if we've never been to Baler before.

For starters, let me share about our road trip. Also, to give information for those who are planning to visit Baler, Aurora this summer.

Compared to our travel to Baler, Aurora in 2011, our trip this year was shorter and more relaxing. For a smooth road trip to Aurora Province without lengthy stopovers and slow traffic, it will only take 5-6 hours at most via Pantabangan.

Nlex--- Sctex--- La Paz, Nueva Ecija--- Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija--- Aliaga, Nueva Ecija--- Talavera-Llanera--- Rizal (Pinagpanaan-Rizal/PantabanganRoad)--- Pantabangan Road--- Maria Aurora--- San Luis, Aurora--- Baler Aurora.

 

We entered NLEX around 7am. We took a short break at the first gasoline station in NLEX to get our tank full and the tires checked, spent 15- 20 minutes.

Our next stop was already in a Total gasoline station in La Paz, Nueva Ecija. We arrived around 9-9:30am. We stayed to have some refreshments for about 30 minutes. From there, we didn't have anymore stopovers or any bathroom breaks, we went straight all the way to Baler.

Along the way from SCTEX, you will encounter a lot of road signs. I greatly advice to take note of  each signage or any landmark as you enter one town to another for this is also going to be the road back to Manila.

We safely reached our destination exactly around 2pm. Our recent visit to Baler, Aurora this year opened our doors to summer of 2014. The weather was perfect, it was sunny but since we're still in the month of February with the Amihan still around, it was also pretty cool. It was awesome!

Sabang Beach Baler, Aurora

One thing I love about Baler? it's not commercialized---yet. Sabang Beach is the main beach resort of Baler. It is a sanctuary to surfing enthusiasts. We visited Sabang Beach on a Saturday. There's not much people around, considering that it's Holy Week and people are expected to go out on vacation. Swimming is only allowed until 6 o' clock in the evening. At night, we can hear the loud roar of waves that could be more than 3 feet high.

The beach is located along Baler Bay which faces the Philippine Sea. Since it's open water, we were advised to stay along the shoreline. The water current is strong, it can pull a small kid out to the ocean. Sabang Beach is equipped with lifeguards and surfing instructors who are always keeping an eye on beach goers and first time surfers.

I guarantee you, it is safe just don't go beyond the perimeter line.

The water in Sabang Beach is not as clear because of the brown sand, but it is very clean.

For Baler visitors, Sabang beach is a good destination for summer it is near the town proper. Entrance is for free. You can  go camping. But they don't have cottages and picnic tables along the beach. You can bring your own food and of course,  guests should keep their space clean and in order all the time. There are designated trash cans or it's best to bring your excess back home. They have small restaurants and eateries that serve good food for a reasonable price.

Ditumabo Falls Adventure

Our Ditumabo Falls visit was one of the main highlights and attraction of our Aurora Getaway. It was an extraordinary experience, because personally, it was also our first time to witness an amazing 140 feet waterfalls. The Philippines is truly a gifted country.

All we have to do is to embrace what goes beyond the common tourist attraction. Aurora Province is an undiscovered destination.

We started our day with a healthy breakfast, then we packed up for a long trek up Mount Danayag, San Luis, Aurora.

It's best to bring bottles of water and expect a walk for about an hour going up the mountain. Aqua shoes are recommended because you will be crossing several streams. The water current from those small bodies of water coming from the main falls are pretty strong. Or just try to take a good grip of your slippers.

The trek up the mountain gave us a breathless view of what mother nature is all about. Our hike  took us an hour and a half because we took a lot of pictures. A quick stop will also be the perfect moment to meditate. All you'll hear is the smooth sound of the water and birds chirping.

It was a beautiful sight. I hope that the people of Aurora will double their efforts on preserving this gift God has given them.

The whole area where the Mother Waterfalls is located was filled with mist. Cameras that are not waterproof will not survive the misty mountain. In my case, I have a waterproof casing. But I had to do it manually so in order to take shot I  removed the cover. It was a once in a lifetime experience, I really don't know when are we coming back or if. I took the risk.

Photographers were kind enough to set up a small tent and left it permanently. But the tent wasn't really a saving grace, because there were holes, it eased up things a bit but  water was still dripping everywhere. I guess it's up to the person's approach. With a tripod and several dry shirts from our friends, I managed to take a good shot. Well,  it's good enough for me.

I don't have a picture with the Mother Waterfalls, but being able to capture the beauty and power of mother nature with my very own eyes and hands working on the camera... it was the greatest.

The Magnificent: Ditumabo Falls

The Mother Waterfalls also acts as an energy resource. The Municipality of San Luis, has a 1.2 megawatt hydroelectric power generation system to provide sustainable power to neighboring villages.

Our Roadtrip To Baler, Aurora Province

A regular trip to Baler usually takes 5-6 hours of land travel from metro Manila, up the mountains of Sierra Madre and down to the Province of Aurora. Baler is the capital town of Aurora Province. I never really thought that I will be able to go to Baler. 

Our road trip to Baler, Aurora is now the no.1 unforgettable trip my family has ever experienced. With my post previous to this, being with our friends made our trip colorful. Our supposedly 6 hour drive became 10 hours. Along the way, we took a lot of pictures and we had a relaxing drive.

Maybe you guys are wondering how our dog took the long travel. Emo our pet Beagle slept the whole time. For pet lovers, as advised by the veterinarian of our dog Emo, water is key so that the dog will not  be uncomfortable. The path we took to Baler was pretty hard for an old car. But with trust, faith and staying positive, even the oldest car will survive the roughest road.

One inspiration we took with us was the story of the famous family who traveled the world with a vintage car. They started as a couple(Herman and Candelaria Zapp) who wanted to fulfill a dream. Along the way, a family blossomed as they move around the globe.  Last year, they made it here in the Philippines.

No matter how old a car is, as long as it's well-maintained both inside and out,  travel by land can be limitless. That happened to us with our 1994 Honda Civic.

Our convoy was composed of 2 Toyota Fortuners and our humble little car. Well, to be honest, it was relieving to know that 2 big vehicles were around just in case something goes wrong with our car. We were up for an adventure anyway, in case something went wrong, we came prepared.

Part of our road trip was being able to grasp some clean air, with lots of greens to look at. The beauty  if you travel by land is being able to capture a lot of fresh scenery.

Finally, we have reached our destination...

I've always seen the North- eastern part of the Philippines as a remote destination. Just thinking about it, feels like it will take forever to get there. But it was just a thought not until we were given the opportunity to go to Aurora Province. Now I can say, I lived that unreachable thought of getting there, I conquered Baler!

Family, Friends and Summer

A great vacation is best shared with our loved ones and close friends. Our Baler Trip was almost a year in the making. We adjusted to everyone's schedule in order to create a fun and relaxing trip. Yes, as a family (that's just me with my 2 boys) we can survive a travel with just the 3 of us. But as much as possible, a few more company adds entertainment and excitement to a trip whether it's long or short one.

With friends and family all rolled up in one event, it can sure make wonders and deliver an unforgettable set of memories. As a mother, I am grateful for each opportunity that comes along the way  for my son to be able to explore.

I find it extraordinary because at an early age of 6, Franky has already experienced so many things. How to trek up a mountain, enjoyed a giant waterfall and even saw his parents surf.

As a wife, it's a blast to share with my other half the very same things we both enjoyed when we were kids. It's like re-living our childhood memories and even better, because we have each other.

To our friends, with  Rach, Khams Bryan and Choy you guys gave a different meaning to what friendship is all about. Dolf and I were given the most down to earth, the most humble people, great personalities full of love. All I can say is thank you... I am very grateful to have you guys too. As always, being with these guys makes every moment of summer colorful and unforgettable.

I grew up with a closely- knit family. Even now, I carry that bond with me with my husband.  We consider our families as our friends and our friends as part of our family.
