2's Awesome!

Just this Saturday, 4 things in 2 sets came by surprise. 

1. A dvd box set of 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later. I have been looking for this set for a very long time. Finally, I was able to find one, and if I didn't ask the sales lady, I will never know. It was the only copy left on the shelf, so I think it was really meant for me. These 2 Zombie movies are my favorites among the long line of Zombie flicks made. The thrill, the unexpected surprises, the zombie attacks, stories of different individuals working together and against each other... it was just too good.

2. Feeling all sluggish and lazy this morning, the 2 Blackberries I saw on my computer table woke me up. My husband started using a Blackberry when he moved to a different company 2 years ago. He was required to own one, so he got his first Blackberry then.  The other one? Hmmm... What do you think? As always, one of those is the old BB of  my husband. This is what I'm talking about they just come. The other one may not be as new , but with proper care, still looks good. Let's just put it this way, I'm officially carrying 3 cellphones in my bag right now.  My Sony Ericsson P990i, my tiny Nokia from SMART (which I got recently) and now a BlackBerry® Curve™ 8320. Honestly, I don't need it, but in times like these... WHO CARES!

From Thick To Thin

For a little story on cellphones. The first cellphone I had was an Alcatel Bubble Phone. You know, their cute "glow in the dark" units. I was still in college then. Since my parents didn't believe in the luxury of having a cellphone, I had to save up for my very own. It was fulfilling to be able to buy my first gadget with my very own allowance money. When I graduated from college, that's the time my parents upgraded my cellphone to a Nokia 6150. I didn't really have any intentions of changing my unit that time. Cellphones units were being sold for a very high price. Of course the newer it is the more expensive. I didn't see the value on upgrading and upgrading all the time.

Through the years, I still changed cellphones,  because they were passed down to me by my dad and my old one, to my brother. When I got married, I sold the cellphone (which was my first Sony Ericsson) my dad gave me and got a smaller unit which is a Nokia 8310. After my 8310, the rest followed: my husband told me to sell it because he is going to give a 6600 (which I sold to my younger brother since there were too much cellphones hanging around) . And when when he got a Blackberry some 2 years back, he gave me his Sony Ericsson P990i.

You see, these cellphones were all handed down to me. Happy? Of course I am, because I didn't spend a single centavo to have it all.

I stopped my first story with a Sony Ericsson P990i right ? so we will begin the main story with that Sony Ericsson P990i.

As we can see in the pictures below, a Sony Ericsson is bulky.  This unit is more for  the guys than us ladies. I have been using it for 2 years. And within those 2 years I came across some events when I had difficulty figuring out on where to put my SEP990i if I need to bring a small bag or a clutch for weddings and other formal occasions.

Today, I was finally graced with a thinner cellphone. Another Nokia.

And believe me, I am going through the manual slowly, because the last Nokia I had wasn't even in color (8310).

Can you spot the big difference?

Nothing fancy or something to be wild about. I'm glad that I was given another option in case some event comes up. I can fit this thinner cellphone inside any bag I want to use, and my Sony Ericsson will still be around if I wanna be a little adventurous.

Something New and Old I Like: My Mp3 Player

I practically have everything in terms of basic essentials when it comes to gadgets. Why am I sharing this?

1. Point Of View.  It helped me stop from going from one store to another. Through the years I was able to acquire all these essentials. At the same time, I got very satisfied that I don't have the urge to upgrade all the time.  It is always important for me to  stick to it's real function. For surfing the net and instant documenting, a laptop it is. Calls and Text, a cellphone. Pictures, camera. Videos, video camera. Music, an MP3 player. We all have our own preferences. Some wants an all-in-one machine, some wants to get whatever is new in the market, some as a collection, for the rest, one is enough.

2. Suddenly I need an upgrade.

3. Justification: If there's an upgrade I need...

That's for my old MP3 player. It's so small, and tiny (L2",W1") I have been using this MP3 (Creative Stone Plus) for almost 3 years now and still works  perfectly fine. At first, I was just thinking of getting new earphones (a super duper nice one). But then again, why not upgrade the whole set. My husband's been using Creative even before we started dating. I took after his choices. If we're going to talk about durability and function together, Creative has it. The other night, as we were browsing in an appliance shop, I was able to take a good look at Creative's latest product: The  Creative Zen X-Fi2.

The specifications are exactly what I'm looking for: an upgraded MP3 player nothing more, nothing less. It's like putting the functions of my old player to a bigger body with upgraded features, updated programs in a slick new look.

We were in the appliance center to buy new electric fans. We went to the Creative stall instead. By the way, it was a choice between the Creative MX and the X- Fi.

Great Finds: Magic Touch Lights

When electricity is out, darkness sets in especially at night. And it's the last thing we all need in this world right? Last night at around 5:30pm, the whole of Quezon City stopped as power supply was cut -off without giving any notice. Right now, the Philippines is somewhat undergoing some crisis in terms of power and water supply NOTE: at some parts of the country.

I wasn't really expecting a brownout anytime. Usually, the people concern would give an early notice if they'll cut power supply and up to what time. Had to coordinate with my parents through cellphone regarding this matter. What were the reasons and how long will there be no power.
Learning our lesson from Typhoon Ondoy that left us with no electricity for almost a week, we made sure to equip our family with tools that will safely provide light and that will add a little breeze in case we run out of power.

Once again, these Magic Touch Lights from Edmarks came in handy. Started using these the day after Ondoy left, preparing for the next Super Typhoon (Sept 2009).

The small black light come in pack of 3s for a very good price of Php300

You can double-tape it on your ceiling, on your wall or just simply place it on your side table. One black light can make a room light up but dimmer than your usual fluorescent. Just push the center to turn it on and off. 3 AAA batteries as source of power. Of course, function will vary on type of batteries used.

If I'm not mistaken, the round White Light costs around Php350 each. But it's the brightest. We have one hanging on our bedroom wall and another in the living room. It can literally light up like there's a real light bulb on. Like the black light, there's a push button to turn it on and off. 2 D2 batteries as source of power.

If you want total safety and a relaxed mind away thinking about possible accidents a mere candle can bring, I think these gadgets are for you.

A mini-fan that is pretty breeze-full (if there's such term) at Php 300+. Obviously, when lights are out, the little boy messes with whatever is functioning at the moment. Please excuse the pen writings on the fan :D

I Need Protection For My Cam

If there 's something on my wishlist for 2009, these are going to be it. A goal, that I'm hoping--- to reach before the end of this year...Hay...

One of the hassles carrying a big camera is bringing a big bag. If not, an extra bag just for it. Really, I didn't mind at first. Evetually, it became hard for my shoulders. I am talking about the smallest DSLR Canon had ever released. I can't imagine the more complex models (which are larger) and consider a tripod present. Apart from this dilemma, I also can't just leave my camera at home. This gadget has already found its spot on every outing we made. And to keep it light, I sorted out my personal bag, removed all unnecessary things in order to make room for my camera. The scenario--- I ended up carrying my camera around my shoulder and a small bag which I share with my son. I have an exposed camera with me... It could just bump into anything unnoticed, breaking the lense.

On our last visit at the Mall Of Asia, I saw a man carrying his DSLR covered with this camera protector (above). The material is "kinda" made out of foam, a very sturdy foam. It covered his camera and he carried his gadget swinging around his shoulders like he is not carrying anything at all. I thought, this could be the answer to my small situation.

A camera bag is essential when you're going to travel, change lenses or if it will take you the whole day out taking pictures. As for me, a basic, fully- charged cam and this protector will do.

In a few months, my family and I are off to the beach again. This is an underwater protector for any Canon DSLR from Rebel XTi, XS, XSi, 500D. I am an underwater enthusiast. Last time we went to the beach, I went home frustrated. The underwater cam I brought had an expired date on it.

There's nothing really to it... I kinda relate Nikon on the professional side. When I think of Nikon, the thought that it goes hand- in -hand with profs pops-up. I see "photographers" carrying Nikon all the time.

But beyond that, if I adore Nikon... I surely LOVE my CANON!

When My Desktop Died On Me

Still recovering from it. I am very sad, that I lost most of my recent photos and files with it. I got too comfortable that nothing will happen and wasn't able to make back-up files. We tried adding a 1GB ram over the weekend. We thought that its the ram that was not working. So we tried to have it replaced. When we got home, my husband immediately fixed the CPU hoping it will work. All of a sudden it (the old desktop) bugged down. He found out that it was the Motherboard and Hard Disk that need replacements. Maybe that's why the Ram wasn't responding. It will take a very long time, before we can buy a new desktop.

I had no choice but to use my laptop for my internet access. And I am having a hard time working with Vista and Internet Explorer together. For the mean time, my husband might change my Laptop's OS to XP and hopefully install Firefox too.

I apologize if I'm not able to visit and make drops regularly. I don't really know what the problem is, I can't open more than 3 windows. I make drops through my Ec drop inbox, to make things easier. I hope my husband will be able to do something about it. My laptop works perfectly fine. Its one of the highest HP Pavilion ever released. I think its the system programs clashing.

Drooling Over A New Desktop

Its one of those moments when you wanted and you really needed something badly, but you can't have it. One reason why I went for blog ads because I wanted to buy a new computer. The one I am currently using is just an emergency PC that my husband assembled last year. Assembled from old computer parts, that is.

Our 'super power computer' died on us last year. A deadly virus killed it. Good thing that we have this back up PC. Just in case you're asking, why not use your laptop. Well, that's the point, I only use my laptop as back up too. But for major net surfing. No, no, I don't want to. And its nice to play with a bigger screen right?

This HP set is what I want. My laptop is an HP. We find this brand reliable, flexible and of good quality. Since I stopped making ads, looks like it will take us another year to avail one. I honestly thought I'm done with gadgets and stuff. My favorites games are coming out this year. SIMS3, Diablo3 and Starcraft 2. The requirement or let's say 'specs' for these games are too high compared with the one I have now.

Well, its one of the things that can wait...I'll see what I can do. I hope this new business will come in handy ;)
